Over the last two decades research has shown that all effective psychological interventions must focus on the brain. This book provides a new model of treatment that integrates critically important components
of brain functioning.

This new integrated model is first brain focused (neurological) and stresses the healing (reparative) of adverse impacts that have prevented the brain from reaching its potential, and outlines a roadmap of an active process (therapy) in promoting healing, resiliency and overall well-being.  The NRT model relies heavily on the research and professional literature of: brain development, trauma, attachment, and resiliency. It also stresses the importance of the relationship between the healer and client and encourages the healer to use a relationship approach in following a roadmap to an improved life.

The NRT roadmap provides the best route to healthy brain development, attachment, and resiliency but relies on the helper to use his or her own skills, experience and techniques to take the journey.

This approach was developed at Jasper Mountain, a program in the mountains of Oregon considered by many to be one of the most effective treatment centres for young children. The book closes with the Jasper Mountain story including how it started and evolved over the last 30 years to become what it is today.   This book was written to answer the frequently asked question, "What happens at Jasper Mountain that can be replicated elsewhere?"
