Innovative thinking and resource smart!

Katy Stephenson is a dynamic, passionate, and committed Systemic Psychotherapist or otherwise known in Australia as Clinical Family Therapist with over 24 years of experience, predominantly working with children, young people, their significant others and the systems that surround them. Registered with Association for Family Therapy (AFT) and UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), she brings a deeply relational and trauma-informed lens to all areas of her work.

Katy’s career spans both the UK and Australia, where she has led clinical and therapeutic practices across complex care, CAMHS, Headspace, and education settings. She is known for embedding systemic and evidence-informed model, including, Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) into services to create sustainable, healing environments for both young people and the teams that support them.

She is a trained IAPT systemic clinical supervisor and places reflective practice at the heart of her work. Katy supports individuals and teams to think with clarity and compassion, while maintaining clinical care. She regularly engages in professional development to remain at the forefront of trauma-informed and systemic best practices.

Katy is a strong advocate for single session work, believing it offers a timely, accessible, and empowering model of support that reduces waitlists and provides people with meaningful help when they need it most. She sees this approach as both client-led and resource-smart, making therapeutic services more responsive, flexible, and hopeful. She is the founder of the global Single Session Thinking (SST) Network, which connects professionals across diverse contexts to share and strengthen practice. She was a keynote speaker at the SST Symposium in Italy 2023 and has contributed to the field through writing, including a published article in Context magazine and a recent chapter in Single Session Therapies: Why and How One-at-a-Time Mindsets Are Effective (2025).

Katy also weaves principles from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and somatic practices into her work. She is deeply committed to helping individuals reconnect with their emotional and physical selves by tuning into their bodily experiences. She believes this embodied approach is essential for supporting trauma recovery and fostering emotional regulation, a sense of safety, and meaningful connection.

Her leadership is grounded in relational ethics, therapeutic integrity, and the unwavering belief that even amidst complexity and crisis, healing, connection, and hope are always possible.

Katy is also a mother to two young daughters and is married to Oliver. Originally from the UK, she feels privileged to have lived and worked across many lands of Australia.
